Our vision at Cherokee Heights Baptist Church is to be a healthy church that glorifies God and enjoys Him in everything we do. The Church is the Pillar and Ground of Truth. It is to magnify and manifest the person of the Lord Jesus Christ through the ordained means of…
We firmly hold that the “Scripture alone is the standard” and that all of scripture is relevant all the time. We are convinced that “Expository preaching and teaching” is the rule given by scripture. In special cases, we are not opposed to topical, topical expositional, or illustrational preaching and teaching, but only as the exception.
II. Biblical Theology
Embracing all of scripture demands that we embrace all that the scripture says about God. If we are to glorify and enjoy Him, we must accept Him for who He says He is. This demands that we proclaim the whole counsel of God from His love to His wrath, from His grace to His justice, from His omnipotence to His sovereignty.
III. The Gospel
The Gospel begins with God and what He has said concerning man. Scripture and history has revealed the pervasive depravity of man and his need of redemption. God has provided this redemption through His Son Jesus. In His life, He fulfilled the righteous demands of the law that condemned us. In His death on the cross, He has satisfied the Father’s wrath toward us. In His resurrection, he has vindicated His death and justified all who repent of their sins and believe the Gospel. The Gospel is not good instruction, it’s good news.
IV. A Biblical Understanding of Conversion
Salvation is all of Grace from beginning to the end. In order to be saved, sinners must be regenerated, or born again; that regeneration consists in giving a holy disposition to the mind; that of the Holy Spirit, in connection with divine truth, so as to secure our voluntary obedience to the gospel; and that its proper evidence appears in the holy fruits of repentance, faith, and newness of life.
V. A Biblical Understanding of Evangelism
Evangelism is the proclamation of the good news of what Jesus accomplished in His life, death, and resurrection. We are commanded to evangelize, but it should be a natural byproduct of true conversion. When we have seen the Glory of Jesus and experienced the new life that He brings, we desire for the whole world to hear and believe. As a church body, there are some who are directly involved and some that are indirectly involved, but everyone is involved.
VI. A Biblical Understanding of Church Membership
Church membership is made up of baptized believers who have evidenced repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Members magnify and manifest the Lord Jesus by serving the local Church body through assembling with one another, loving one another, praying for one another, bearing one another’s burdens, exhorting one another and admonishing one another. The Church, for the sake of the Gospel, also meets the needs of the community through giving in various ways, adoption, upholding practical righteousness all in connection with evangelism.
VII. Biblical Church Discipline
True Church discipline can only be practiced by a true Church that is disciplined. When Church discipline is necessary and the process must begin toward a wayward member, it must be done in the spirit of love, grace, and long-suffering with the hope and end of restoration.
VIII. Discipleship and Growth
In connection with the Church being commanded to evangelize the nations, it is also responsible for the maturing of those who come to faith in Christ. The goal of discipleship is growing in the knowledge of and conformity to the person of Jesus Christ. A healthy church makes disciples that make disciples and should be understood in relation with the former seven marks.
